Grand Canyon Weather
Weather at the Grand Canyon can change quickly and varies dramatically with elevation. A comfortable afternoon on the South Rim can mean much hotter conditions below the rim, and summer thunderstorms can build fast. Check the live forecast along with current park conditions before you head out.
Current Conditions
Before you drive to the park or hike below the rim, check current road, trail, water and facility conditions. Wildfire operations, winter weather, construction and seasonal closures can change access with little notice.
South Rim, North Rim & Beyond
Most visitors enter Grand Canyon National Park at the South Rim, which is open year-round and has the park’s largest concentration of viewpoints, trails, lodging and visitor services. The North Rim is higher and seasonal. Grand Canyon West, Havasupai, the Colorado River and the gateway communities are separate destinations with their own access, distances and planning needs.
South Rim
Open year-round, with Grand Canyon Village, Desert View, the park’s largest concentration of overlooks and services, and easy access to the Rim Trail and major trailheads.
North Rim
Higher in elevation and open seasonally, with fewer services, long forested approaches and some of the canyon’s most expansive viewpoints.
Beyond the Rims
The Colorado River, Havasupai, Grand Canyon West and nearby gateway communities each have different access requirements, driving routes and trip-planning considerations.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: Check Before Your Visit
South Rim corridor trail access has reopened farther into the canyon, but Black Bridge, Silver Bridge, Phantom Ranch, Bright Angel Campground and the entire North Kaibab Trail remain closed. Trail and water status have changed repeatedly this fall, so check the Current Conditions page and the latest National Park Service Key Hiking Messages before any below-rim hike.
